Notts County Away

After claiming three points in our first match at The Valley, it's up to our new recruits to show that they are capable of winning games on their travels. Opponents Notts. County will have plenty of confidence going into the game as they beat Carlisle convincingly in their opening game and managed a respectable performance against Championship side and local rivals Nottingham Forest in their midweek Cup game.

Charlton will likely field and unchanged side. Chris Powell has intimated that if the players are performing then they pick themselves, which means Danny Green will probably line up on the bench with Scott Wagstaff keeping his place on the right side of midfield. Jason Euell was snapped up on a one-year deal earlier this week and I would be surprised if we didn't see him at least make the bench. Euell can play in a couple of positions which will allow Powell some options, this is particularly important since the number of substitutes have now been reduced.

Notts. County appointed Martin Allen as manager in April this year and became their eighth manager in an 18 month period. County had been on a run of seven straight defeats before the board moved for Allen. The club managed to stay in League One despite being in the relgation zone when Martin Allen took over. Allen has a fairly decent pedigree in the lower leagues and I will be surprised if Notts. County languish in the bottom third of the table again.

Honours finished even last season with both sides picking 1-0 wins at home. County have shown in that they are capable of scoring goals after grabbing three at Carlisle and another three against Forest midweek, so it's likely that our defence will have a lot more to do than against Bournemouth last week. I have concerns that this team is weakest at the back so Taylor and Morrison are really going to have to get their house in order. There were signs against Bournemouth that they haven't got their communication right, and I hope that there are no gifts for County as a result.
